Data Collected During Navigation and Mapping Sessions

As you navigate a route using the app, the following information will be collected. This information will not be shared with outside parties and will only be accessed by the STEP Navigation developers and research team.

• Your latitude and longitude
• The 3D-motion of your phone relative to the phone’s starting position
• Your evaluation of the quality of the navigation experience based on the ratings you provide through the app itself.
• Video data of your usage will be processed using Google’s Cloud Anchor API, which his subject to the following privacy policy. Importantly, this privacy policy stipulates that video data will be deleted as soon as processing is complete (usually within 30 seconds) and video data will not be shared by third parties.

Optional Data Collected When Navigating or Mapping Venues

If you are a venue manager (you’ve successfully entered a venue key), under the recording preferences settings menu, you can turn on anchor and navigation recordings. When these recordings are turned on, video of your anchor recordings and navigation sessions will be recorded to your phone. Later, you can share these recordings with us through the “Mange Anchor Recordings” menu. The purpose of these recordings is to allow us to convert your maps to use a new mapping algorithm we are developing that will enable advanced features, such as the ability to use the app without an Internet connection.
